Local AttractionsCarbonear has many attractions, activities and events to appeal to local, national and international tourists. Carbonear offers horseback riding, swimming facilities, fishing, tennis, natural and developed walking trails, boat tours, playgrounds and a golf course within 25km. The town and local area also offers scenic, cultural and historical attractions such as museums, plays, the Rorke Stores, War Memorial, and Train Station. Guarding the entrance to the harbour, Carbonear Island is now a National Historic Site. In 1669, residents of Carbonear sought refuge on the island as the town was burned during battles between the English and French. Harbour Rock Hill is also a local attraction, attesting to the town's colorful and long history.
